AIR FREIGHT INDUSTRY FACES SLOWDOWN DUE TO 18% GST
0 have signed. Let’s get to 100!
Airfreight Industry which was already into a sliw down due to various Taxes, poor Infrastructure etc has been hit badly by the recent Government Announcement of 18%GST.
Ocean Freight or Sea Freight has been given a grand treatment with only 5% GST.As the shipping Industry inclusive of NVOCC,LINERS,SEA FREIGHT Agents etc has been recognised as an Industry with a Ministry to monitor them, they have received all benefits from the government since last 30 years.
Whereas Airfreight is still not considered as an Industry inspite of an Export Tonnage of more than 150,000 tons on an All India Basis exclusive of Domestic Airfreight Movements. The prices are higher than Ocean freight and Exporters prefer moving all pharmaceuticals Temp control shipments by Air for better handling and services,as India is the largest exporters of Generic drugs and Medicines.
Air Exports also employs more than 5million people directly in Airfreight logistics,CHA,Aviation,Handling Agencies,Airport etc and indirect employment too accounts to more than 5million jobs.
Still this is the ONLY INDUSTRY Which is never benefited. All the Air Cargo Associations and Unions are not effective to present the case to the government .There is an urgent need for a seperate Ministry for AirFreight Logistics and Independent MOS In all states for Airfreight Handling and Logistics inclusive of Aviation.
We request all State Governments and Central Governments to seriously review the Airfreight Taxes to avoid a Vibrant Industry going down with people losing jobs and creating heavy unemployment issues in India.
As there is lack of leadership and responsible person to handle the Airfreight Issues the infrastructure of Mumbai Sahar Cargo is so poor even after Mumbai exports more than 30,000tons of Air exports and double the import volume.
Even poor Nations like ETHIOPIA has built the world largest Airfreight and perishble Terminal wuth government funding of USD400 million and SHAME ON US FOR NOT EVEN THINKING ON THAT LEVEL INSPITE OF BEING THE WORLDS LARGEST EXPORTER AFTER CHINA.
