Save West Des Moines Water Works

This petition had 252 supporters

HF316 was introduced in the Iowa Legislature in an effort to create a regional water utility.  If HF316 passed, the water utility assets of Des Moines, Urbandale, and West Des Moines would be taken from their citizens without a vote and given to a newly created entity with little to no representation from the western suburbs.  The regionalization idea has died.  What's left is now called HF 484.  It says nothing at all about regionalization.

HF484 focuses only on dissolving the water utility boards of Des Moines, Urbandale, and West Des Moines.  This is nothing more than a power grab to place water utility assets and monies directly under the control of their respective city councils, without the people voting on it.

The sole purpose of the water boards of these cities is to focus on water quality, treatment, distribution and ensuring that the revenues of the water utility are used strictly for water utility needs.

Previous attempts in Des Moines and West Des Moines to dissolve the water boards have failed due to the voice of their citizens.  Please use your voice now to sign this petition to stop another attempt at disbanding the water utility boards.
