The Speaker of the City of Cape Town , Alderman Felicity Purchase has shown that she is not neutral in her Attitude and Execution of her duties.

The Rules , Legally, Ethically and morally requires the Speaker to be neutral in the discharge of her Position. During the inauguration of the City of Cape Town Council on the 28th November 2021, it became clear that the D.A Speaker was intolerant, dismissive and totally unpleasant towards non- DA Councillors. 

A Reader of the Cape Times and The Cape Argus was moved to write about this in a " Letters to the Editor". That letter was published on Monday 22nd November in both the Argus and Cape Times.

Sandra Dickson of the " STOP COCT- smart Compact " Lobby group echoed the sentiments expressed in that letter. Thousands of posts flared up on Social Media during the Live streaming of a Full Council sitting, as it became clear that the Speaker clearly shows her D.A. Militaristic attitude in chambers. One example of how Purchase shows favouritism. Whenever she addresses DA Councillrs , her body language is vastly different to when she is addressed, or addresses Non- DA Councillors. Especially Black African Councillors.
