We have heartbreaking news to share with you all today. The baby sloth was born this morning but unfortunately did not make it. We, along with the zoo staff, are heartbroken. We have had some talks with the zoo and were aware that this is the main reason they never decide names before a zoo baby is born. Let’s hope Lightning and her caretakers are doing ok and recover from this tragedy. Please keep the zoo staff in your thoughts as they are dealing with such a terrible and sudden loss.
The press release from the zoo today:
Months of anticipation and excitement surrounding the birth of what would have been the zoo’s first sloth baby ended early this morning when Lightning delivered a stillborn pup. Vets and care staff were present for the hours-long labor and are devastated by the outcome. Please keep them in your thoughts as they shift their focus to making sure that Lightning remains healthy and comfortable in the weeks ahead.
