Letter From Dr. Gaury Adhikari Supporting Kanak Mani Dixit

Dear all It is with great concern and sadness I write this brief note on arrest of Mr Kanam Mani Dixit, a staunch advocate of democracy and dignity for common man in Nepal. He has raised voice against any kind of autocratic rule in Nepal for example : killing of Dormaba victims, Killing of Headmaster Mukti N Adhikari, dictatorship of Ex King, This he dis while it was fashionable to advocate against the political parties of the day vis a vis ex King. Over the decades , Kanak ji has stood hard and fast for the rule of the law and democratic rights of the Nepali people. This he has done through uncompromising writings both in vernacular and in English language to elucidate nuances of Nepali body politics . His exposition on Nepali political and social matters has had enormous influence in Nepali and overseas intellectual circles. This has helped steer Nepali body politics to the center , away form far Right or Left dogmas. Such erudite discourses spearheaded by Kanak ji has provided the political dialogue to continue and stem the tide of expeditious but fatal growth of autocratic streak in Nepali politics. It is naive to say that Kanak ji single handedly achieved it all but one can not deny that as an individual , he is a significant thinker and intellectual who has stood steadfast against all kind of dictatorial, autocratic streak that might swamp the democratic , liberal space in impoverished country like Nepal. To have such a person taken to jail on alleged charges trumped up by a body which is getting dubious by the day, ( while supreme court of the country had thrown out the charges earlier on) makes one cringe with appalling disbelief on ongoings of this farce. The deafening silence on this matter by forum member is inexplicable for this scribe.
