The official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby is the Mint Julep. The official cocktail of the Kentucky Oaks is the Lily.
Thursday of Derby week is Louisville's day at the track and has become known as "Thurby." Thursday attendance grows every year and is always packed with locals enjoying "their" day at the track.
The time has come for Thurby to have its own signature cocktail and glass. And, since Thurby has become a tradition for locals, the Thurby cocktail should have local tradition and roots.
Under this criteria, there is only one choice: The Old Fashioned. It is made with Kentucky bourbon and the term was coined right here in Louisville. In 2015, the city named the Old Fashioned as it's official cocktail.
