Why this petition matters

Started by Watch and Pray

We are saddened and disappointed beyond words to hear that Congressman Jerrold Nadler, along with his fellow congressmen, Adriano Espaillat, and Congresswomen Carolyn Maloney and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, wrote a letter to Governor Andrew Cuomo; Mayor Bill De Blasio, and Mount Sinai’s CEO, Kenneth L. David on US Congressional letterhead, questioning why Samaritan’s Purse was allowed access to Central Park to do what they do best…help people in times of great need and crisis.  The reason for Mr. Nadler’s deep concern and displeasure was due to the biblical stand Samaritan’s Purse adheres to as a Christian, biblically based, charitable organization.  Samaritan's Purse was not about debating or performing marriages for anyone during this COVID 19 pandemic. They were about the work of healing the sick.

Of course, we know for a fact, as people who have been directly involved in one of their yearly programs, Operation Christmas Child, Samaritan’s Purse does not discriminate when feeding the hungry, attending to the medical needs of the ill, clothing the naked, and giving those wonderful boxed gifts to impoverished children, all over the world.  It is preposterous to think that NY Congressman Jerrold Nadler is now so blinded by “political correctness” that he, along with the LGBTQ protesters he is attempting to represent, have now become the greatest perpetrators of intolerance and bias. In other words, the “bullied” have now become some of the biggest bullies in our city. Since when does what one believes about marriage become the litmus test for whether or not he/she may be acceptable to conduct business or offer a service? Imagine going to a bank teller and making a cash withdrawal, but first posing the question, “before you hand me my money, what do you believe about same-sex marriage?” How about going to a hospital or a doctor in a private practice, but before you allow the physician to examine you, you inquire as to their stance on marriage and whether or not they agree to marriage between the same gender?  How utterly inappropriate that would be. While most of us do not know Mr. Nadler or the 3 other congressional members, who agreed to and signed the letter, being born and bred in NY ourselves, we seriously doubt that these congressional members themselves interrogate all of the individuals they do business with on a daily basis. We don’t believe Nadler, Espaillat or the two female members of congress, question their doctors, barbers, hairdressers, shopping mall owners, or all of the varied types of people they encounter, etc. with such inordinate inquiries, prior to accepting their services.

Instead of warmly welcoming and thanking Mr. Graham & Samaritan's Purse for coming to New York City in one of our most desperate times of need, the COVID 19 pandemic, Nadler and his colleagues did all they could to disgrace and expel them from the Central Field hospital they built to help our own people. Samaritan's Purse and all of their caring team left the comfort and safety of their own homes, to minister to the sick and suffering in our hometown. Samaritan’s Purse in no way discriminates among those they help, Nadler and his colleagues have worked feverishly to show their disdain of anyone who holds Christian values. What they fail to understand, is that it is those same Christ honoring values which cause Samaritan's Purse to serve every man, woman, boy and girl with a spirit of excellence and without favoritism.

Please sign this petition to express your gratitude toward Samaritan's Purse & Mt. Sinai Health System and your utter disfavor with the actions of Congressmen Nadler, Espaillat, Maloney and Ocasio-Cortez.
