Many churches and religious organizations request or require tithes or other donations for membership, yet many churches are not financially transparent with how those donations are spent. People receive a charitable deduction for contributions to churches, yet the churches aren't accountable to their members for how the funds are used. 

Most public charities publish their financial records for public oversight and inspection, so why are religious organizations excluded? By requiring disclosures, we will hopefully see more active charitable participation from religious organizations.
