Christy Clark: Contract the Martin Mars Waterbombers for 5 more years to protect BC
Governments #1 priority. To protect its citizens.
Jul 24, 2014 — This is it folks. This will be the last update for the petition. Consider these words from the City of San Diego report on the devastating 2007 fires. Recommendation 3:
"Consider requesting and utilizing Type 1 helicopters and/or the Martin Mars large capacity water/foam/gel fixed-wing seaplane to pre-treat areas of those communities that are likely to become impacted by the fire. The pre-treatment of structures by gel products should occur in advance of the fire’s encroachment into a community. The combination of aerial pre- treatment (gel) of the structures and ground based resources pre-treatment (gel) would provide for a reduction of structure loss. Having the immediate availability of the Martin Mars fixed-wing water/foam/gel bomber in San Diego, during the Santa Ana wind prone fire season, should be seriously considered."
Despite all the figures the government wants to throw at this issue, and like the UBCM stated last fall, this plane can protect homes and firefighters. How much is that worth?
I will be delivering over 18,000 names on 573 pages to the Premiers office in Kelowna on Thursday at 12:30PM. The petition itself will continue until midnight Friday so you can keep counting and signing and sharing. Ill send the rest to her office by mail.
Thank you so much for your support in this. We have accomplished an amazing feat. This is perhaps one of the fastest growing online petitions ever in BC and that would not have happened without your passion and knowledge for and of this plane.
I remain hopeful that the Government will come to its senses and contract the plane for future years, but if they don't, this will have been a fitting send off for a great aircraft. It has given it's all protecting us from fires for the past 50 years, and we have given our all trying to keep it doing its job.
