More Love for Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats and Little Jerry and the Monotones!

The Issue

With Sesame Street's 50th anniversary going on year-round, I feel there are a couple of rock groups from the show who needs much more recognition as every other character from the series, old and new, and that my friends is Little Chrissy and the Alphabeats and Little Jerry and the Monotones. As I noticed lately, both bands have had little popularity as they each had a handful of songs, my favorites being "Count it Higher" and "Rock and Roll Readers" by the Alphabeats and "Telephone Rock" and "Rock and Roll Star" by the Monotones. Don't get me wrong, they did get a few appearances in books and videos, and even had some episodes in the past that gave them at least a large role at some point, but, believe it or not, these rockers have had little involvement in merchandise, such as t-shirts, toys, accessories, etc. So being a fan of the Street, I feel that we should at least give them a fighting chance to share the same stardom all our other favorite characters from the show have and go down in history as one of the earliest and most memorable Muppet rock bands of all time! I also consider this as a tribute to Christopher Cerf, the man who gave life to both groups, as well as being the voice of our favorite piano-playing frontman, Little Chrissy, and nonetheless was responsible for introducing to children the irresistible sounds of rock and roll, thanks to his musical contributions on Sesame Street. If anyone on the show truly wants their voices to be heard, it's these guys. After 50 years of Sunny Days, I say let's give them a time to shine!
