SB 6456 - 2017-18
Concerning the protection of military installations operated by the United States armed services from incompatible development.
Sponsors: Conway, Bailey, Hobbs, Zeiger, Palumbo, Rolfes

House Bill 2341 on this topic failed to get out of committee. However, a Senate Substitute Bill 6456 will now be discussed. If this bill passes, it will allow:

  • the military to dictate what uses shall be allowed or deemed "incompatible", and whether any development shall be allowed on any land in the State of Washington - including an expansion of military training exercises into private lands, forcing people to move.
  • Language on the substitute bill includes "...and the need to prioritize the protection of land near military installations from development that is incompatible with the operational needs of the installation."
  • Any commander of any military installation operating within or adjacent to Washington State would have the sole authority to determine whether incompatibility in land use exists.
  • If such a bill passes, what do you think will happen to our lands, farms, housing developments that may be near to a military installation?

The Substitute Bill 6456 will be discussed in the Ways and Means Committee on Monday, February 5th!

Please sign this petition to let our WA State Legislators that we are asking them to reject this atrocious bill - and share petition with other family and friends who are Washington State voters. Tthis is not a democratic process and they may well be in violation of our state's constitution.

In addition, feel free to send an email to the Chair and Vice Chair of the Ways and Means Committee stating your opposition to SB 6456:

Senator Christine Rolfes (D) 23rd LD Chair

Senator David Frockt (D) 46th LD Vice Chair

Thank you!
