Allow INDUSTRIAL HEMP to be grown by Misty Valley Farm

House Bill 3705 regarding the cultivation of Industrial Hemp provides an opportunity for economic development that could benefit the entire commonwealth. Along with 25,000 different uses of industrial hemp, there are also many environmental benefits to the plant.

`Hemp has carbon sequestering properties

`Hemp naturally repels weed growth and has few insect enemies.

`Hemp is a natural substitute for cotton and wood fiber. Hemp fiber is stronger than  cotton and can be used for making clothing.

`Hemp seeds are a source of high-protein oil that can be used for human and animal  consumption.

Misty Valley Farms is a family run business but due to economic cutbacks and larger production companies the dream of the American small farmer has been slowly eradicated. This is why we have been spending our retirement funds in the hope to find a product that is economically beneficial to our family and community.  One that will allow the next generation of children to carry on the tradition of farming.  Over the last few years, Misty Valley farm has been doing the long and tedious research and testing of hemp seeds and have been able to produce small batches of hemp oil, which in turn we have been using in our all natural Hemp/CBD edible products. The demand for these products has been growing steadily and we have come to a standstill. We are asking  the committee members to support your small local farmer, such as Misty Valley Farm.  We are requesting to be able to plant industrial hemp in Western Mass which in turn will allow us to pay our bills, provide the dream of sending our children to college , provide employment to the local community and provide quality raw hemp and products to the many local USA companies such as Pantagonia and Ford Motors that are currently forced to buy billions in raw Hemp from China and Canada.

This plant was once the crop of this great Commonwealth and was grown by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, amongst many others.

We NEED to bring Hemp farming back to the United States of America.

We NEED to bring Hemp farming to Western, Massachusettes.
