Nam-gu Office, Ulsan (officer Seo Dong-wook) imported two dolphins behind the scene from Taiji, Japan, a notorious place for slaughtering sea of dolphins every year. It was also blamed for driving five dolphins to die before. The office is nothing but a serious ecological killer.
When the efforts of people finally achieved releasing Jedol the dolphin who had been captive in an aquarium, the officer Seo already had a plan to import other ones. On February 9, the office led by officer Seo finally brought two dolphins into the country. But the process violated the law. Despite the fact that the Dolphin Import Approval Document of the Ministry of Environment expressively provides stress on dolphins in transit has to be minimized, the dolphins were transported by ship, not plane, followed by usual vehicle traveling at 70-90km/h instead of vibration free vehicle traveling at 30-40km/h under Seo’s direction, taking a total of 32 hours during the whole process. As they were young, they were very vulnerable to such inhumane handling. Besides, their mental and physical states had been already so bad from the separation from their mom at Taiji. The dolphins suffered extreme stress and got injured during the transit, leading one of them to die on 13th and the other one to be in critical condition.
For these reasons, I strongly demand the Minister of Environment ban the import of dolphins from Taiji; officer Seo of Nam-gu office close the Hands-on Dolphin Experience Hall followed by his immediate resignation; and the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries release the rest of the dolphins captive in the aquarium.
