Pedestrian safety improvements on the way for Bungendore

Pedestrian safety in Bungendore will improve this month following work to upgrade two existing crossings on Malbon Street (Kings Highway), near Bungendore Public School.

Transport for NSW Regional Director South, Cassandra Ffrench said Transport would upgrade four existing refuge warning signs to yellow green reflective ground signs, install an additional westbound school zone static sign, and paint existing island kerbs, pavement chevron and lines.

"These improvements will provide greater awareness to all road users of the two crossing locations on the Kings Highway within the 40 km/h school zone for Bungendore Public School," Ms Ffrench said.

"These refuges are used daily by the students of Bungendore primary and high schools and the community in general, so it is important we make these upgrades to improve safety by increasing awareness of these crossings.

"This important short-term work will bring the crossings in line with the current Australian standard, with longer term improvements in planning."

Ms Ffrench said the upgrades are interim safety improvements while Transport investigates the potential for a new children's crossing near the location.

"We are investigating longer term safety upgrades at the intersection of Malbon Street (Kings Highway) and Ellendon Street and will keep the informed as planning progresses," Ms Ffrench said.

"The investigation and safety upgrades form part of Transport's long-term commitment to provide safe, efficient and reliable journeys on the Kings Highway while maintaining the character and amenity in Bungendore town centre."

Work on the lines and signs will be carried out over two days from Monday 16 to Tuesday 17 June, between 7am and 5pm, weather permitting.

Changed traffic conditions including a reduced speed limit may be in place for the safety of workers and motorists.
