UK government has come out that the proposed route through Corbett would be elevated to allow animals to pass through and would ensure that the wildlife at Corbett National Park is not harmed. But does it ensure that peace, tranquility and freedom of Wildlife would not be disturbed by no means? Few points: 1. Is the elevated corridors are on entire stretch of Corbett park or at only selected zones? 2. Massive construction for pillars by driving piles for foundations and beams would distract many species not to venture in constant area for ever lest cross. 3. After construction, undoubtedly there would be noise pollution, honking, screeching sounds of tyres, glare of headlights in night time etc. What would be the effect on wildlife due to this? 4. The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the Public Works Department of the Uttarakhand government to prepare a new alignment of the project. Then how Kandi road is being insisted for development. 5. To tackle issue that road passing through UP would have toll tax problems is much easier and convenient option than constructing a road right through Corbett considering all above. I think review of existing Kandi road would go a long way to portray better environment friendly image of UK govt.
