Vadaperumbakkam a residential locality in North Chennai has seen a lot of development in the past decade. Recently lot of plastic recycling, chemical and packing industries are being setup there, most of these plastic industries are burning their byproducts, around 500kg each day. Recently an acid company called GKM Chemicals which bottles sulfuric acid starting functioning here.

 These acid and plastic industries are polluting the air and water by letting out residue acid and effluents in the open thus polluting ground water and burning plastics polluting the air, causing health problems to residents ranging from skin allergies to asthma and death of cattle by drinking the polluted water. Lot of children here  are suffering from Respiratory Conditions.

The Residents complained to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's Special cell and Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and the Corporation of Chennai Numerous times, After several Protests by residents and Humans rights activists, The Times of India published a Report about the Severe pollution and the plight of the residents.

 After this, Government officials inspected this area and it was found that GKM Chemicals(Acid company) has not obtained prior consent from the pollution control board, hence show clause notice was issued to the company and further recommended to the board to issue Closure notice.

 But even after a year, the companies are still operating while flouting all the rules and polluting the area thus slowing killing the people of Vadaperumbakkam.
