The apex court turned down Shahabuddin's plea and directed him to be ready to defend himself on Wednesday on why bail should not be canceled. Facing flak over fielding a weak lawyer in Patna High Court which facilitated RJD strongman Shahabuddin's release from jail, Bihar government replaced Gopal Singh with a senior Supreme Court lawyer Dinesh Dwivedi. Supreme Court lawyer Prashant Bhushan challenged the RJD strongman's bail on behalf of Chanda Babu. He told the court that there were 45 cases against Shahabuddin, out of which nine are murder cases and 10 cases in which he had been convicted.
