High Vapour, an Australian greyhound detained at the Canidrome who has managed so far to survive that hell hole, was released on Monday 4th December and placed in the care of the Institute for Civic and Municipal Affairs (IACM) and adopted by a Portughese citizen of Macau yesterday, Tuesday 5th December. The IACM facilitated this release and made High Vapour’s rescue possible. High Vapour is an Australian greyhound, born on the 12th January 2011 and owned by Kerry Hogan, one of the breeders implicated in the live baiting scandal. It is highly probable that he is the greyhound featuring in this photograph that went viral all over the world. High Vapour has been adopted by a Macau family, one of the 301 families who responded to the appeal by Anima Macau by offering to adopt one of the approximately 600 greyhounds still at the Canidrome, and who were considered suitable to adopt one. It’s a really good sign that High Vapour has been adopted by a Macau family, because this is strong evidence that there are many people in Macau who are discovering that greyhounds make wonderful pets, perfectly able to live in harmony with children and other dogs in everyday home environments. This is thanks to the awareness raising and educational work carried out by Anima Macau during all these years, and also thanks to Garlic, Magic and Honour, the first three greyhounds to be released from the Canidrome, who are wonderful ambassadors for all greyhounds due to their gentle, sensitive, sweet and friendly natures.
