Note: This is the Uptown Community Portrait similar to what we enjoyed in 2000 and 2005. It is outdoors. It is not a building tour.
Who: Uptown residents, business owners, and friends and fans of the theatre.
What: Similar to the giant crowd that showed up for the grand opening in August of 1925, we will gather to show our support for the neighborhood, the business district and the opportunity to restore and use the Uptown Theatre again. Many of you may have participated in or have seen the Community Portraits we took in 2000 (for the Millennium and the 75th anniversary of the theatre) and in 2005 (for the 80th anniversary of the theatre).
Why: This is a Community Portrait. It is the best way to convey what our neighborhood is about. Uptown doesn't have empty streets and sidewalks. It is vibrant, diverse and alive. This is an opportunity to see and be seen. To take a moment and to talk with neighbors and visitors. It is a photo you will cherish for many years to come. Memories for a lifetime.
How: Photographer Bob Nick (who captured the Uptown Community Portrait 2005) will deliver a finished image for us to share on www.uptowntheatre.com You may download it there and use it for your enjoyment -- non-commercial purposes only.
Also, you may register to receive an invitation to the big reveal of the new portrait at the Chicago History Museum in the coming weeks! Please use this form.
And, you may join our Friends of the Uptown e-mail list by clicking here to peruse editions of the e-mail and sign up.
Thank you for reading this update. We look forward to seeing you at Broadway & Lawrence for the Uptown Community Portrait!
