The junior varsity 2 swim team at Cherry Creek High School was abruptly cut in the middle of the summer leaving incredible swimmers, talented people, hopeful captains, and parts of what was a family stranded. Although they state costs as the issue, a new boys swim team is being added while we are being cut. Additionally, due to personal relations between the head of a club team and our athletic director, a club team’s practice is being put before our own girls. This club team has no affiliation other than money with CCHS, yet they are given priority above our bruin athletes. With teen suicides and mental health issues rising across colorado, schools must be striving to provide kids with passion and belonging instead of sharing the idea that athletes who will bring in money and state titles are the only students who matter.
