Mom Chelsea started this petition to chelsea

The parents of children at Avenues School and the Guardian Angel School and residents of Chelsea request that the NYPD provide a crossing guard at the intersection of 23rd Street and 10th Avenue.

Kids aged 2 – 18 from Avenues, Guardian Angel plus many other schools in the Chelsea community (Kids’ Korner, Chelsea Day School, Preschool of the Arts) cross these streets regularly.  Moreover, Chelsea is home to many centers that aid vulnerable people (Fulton Senior Center, SAGE, Hudson Guild) so a safe walking environment is especially critical in our neighborhood.

Cars going up 10th Avenue can turn East or West WHILE THERE IS A WALK SIGN for pedestrians heading North and South.

Moreover, drivers often speed to make the light or even pass a red light.  Drivers are often on phones and not paying attention to people crossing.  Finally, it is often congested because of cars going to the West Side Highway; construction at the Hudson Yards; and cars going to the Lincoln tunnel.

Parents and concerned citizens of Chelsea have witnessed crashes and too many close calls involving children.

Children’s lives should not be at risk en route to school so we implore you to add a crossing guard to the North-South crossing of 10th Avenue BEFORE there is a serious crash.

Please add your name so that the police and the Community Board can recognize the importance of this.
