CDOT recently provided us the latest statistics in more detail. It shows the before and during the bike demonstration. It was astonishing to see that motorist before the demonstration drove 40-70+ mph 60% of the time. If you ever walked along The Plaza, this probably comes to no surprise. However, during the bike demonstration motorist drove 40-70+ mph only 10% of the time. The is a 83% reduction of motorist speeding in this range. The goal of this petition is to SLOW or CALM the traffic. The Plaza is simply dangerous. The facts are indisputable. Now that we have this data we are obligated to act. So what are next steps? We are meeting with City Counsel and Sustain Charlotte to keep the momentum going. We would like to put ideas to action and include the community make design changes that would help us make the The Plaza safe.
