Final update, April 28, 2021
A message from Arnie:
Dear Supporters,
As of 1 year ago, April 28, 2020, I obtained my release from prison. At first it was through a temporary judicial order to keep me out of confinement, where CoViD-19 was beginning to spread. Then on October 29, 2020, after an investigation by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Sentencing Integrity office, it was determined that I had been denied my constitutional right of a trial by my peers at the original trial in June 1972. The record shows that the Suffolk County District Attorney's office had eliminated all of the Black jurors from being impaneled, and the trial then proceeded with an all-white jury. In light of this admission by current Suffolk County D.A. Rachael Rollins, the capital murder conviction was overturned and the conviction reduced to voluntary manslaughter, 20 years maximum, time served. (*See link below.)
My family and I would like to thank all of you for showing your support in signing this petition, and commenting if you were so moved to. It's important to continue to support and keep hope alive for the many unjustly convicted and sentenced loved ones who are still being held in prison, locked out of our communities. Believe me when I say that your voice, your demonstrations of support, the educational, developmental, and rehabilitative programs, and family/friend visits and mailings are important and powerful beyond the imagination, in maintaining one's humanity in the prison environment and in having a successful reentry. Please continue to support and share the word about similar petitions and initiatives, and stay informed of what's going on with the rights of women, men, and children caught up today in the prison system.
Additionally, if you are a family member or an individual who is actively working to secure the release of your loved one in the Massachusetts prison system, you may want to consider starting a petition similar to mine and those of other folks. If you do, or if you have already started one, think of me and include me in the initiative. Let me know what's going on and if there's anything I can do. I'm willing to do what I can to help make it happen.
Again, thanks to everyone who signed this petition. I appreciate it very much. And now it's time to support others.
The struggle continues!
One Love,
Arnie
