Elections update 1. Joe Bustos and other wafflers

Joe Bustos is running for re-election (SC house district 112) and should be avoided at all costs. The majority of his constituents live in the Mount Pleasant area and are officially “non-residents” of two of the local beach communities he also represents, so why he has chosen to back the residents of those barrier islands in their attempts to privatize and cut off access to all non paying guests remains a mystery. Bustos should be a NO at the ballot box.
If you care about your right to access and use public lands and park along state owned and maintained roads DO NOT Vote for Bustos. He spent 2021 and the first 6 months of 2022 defending Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island’s attempts to significantly reduce access to our state beaches for all “non residents.”
Attached to this petition update is a photo of Bustos and Mayor John Tecklenburg (city of Charleston) participating in the declaration signing party for the Palm Republic - a group of Isle of Palms residents who has threatened succession from the rest of the state over the South Carolina legislature and SCDOT’s defense of public land last year. Bustos stood up in the house last year and whined about home rule in a feeble attempt to defend Isle of Palms (aka The Palm Republic) and Sullivan’s Island. Bustos doesn’t represent the values of this state or the values of his constituents - he’s a waffler clamoring for the attention of snobs on the islands.
Residents of both these islands have complained about impacts to their property values and way of life blaming non residents and the occasional dirty diaper left on the beach - refusing to acknowledge that thousands of their paying short term rental guests are likely behind most of the trash left on the beach each year. These islands have only ever had the weakest of arguments for cutting off access to public beaches and Bustos has defended their snobbish efforts every step of the way. He should be a NO VOTE.
***Our local elections are quickly approaching and I will have more to come on as many candidates as possible including who is in support of our efforts to secure access to our beaches.***
