A FRIENDLY REMINDER:
Never forget what these island municipalities tried to do last year in severely limiting parking and beach access to non-residents, while promoting their own rental businesses.   The SCDOT worked tirelessly for months on a compromise that would allow these island municipalities to maintain some private parking within the state right of ways, that blanket these islands, while also expanding the amount of public parking available in the right of ways (essentially returning some of the public parking that had already been available to the public for decades).  This year S40 became state law, SCDOT took a firm stance to prohibit any more reductions in parking and access by these towns, and several coastal counties passed resolutions protecting access to these natural resources that belong to all of us, BUT this will be a constant battle going forward.

VOTE & CONTINUE TO USE YOUR VOICE TO PROTECT WHAT IS YOURS:

Municipal elections are NOV 2nd. VOTE!  And remember what transpired in 2020 when you do.   All of us across the state will be making decisions regarding a huge range of political issues some more polarizing than others, AND we should all do our homework with regard to each candidate being considered.

If you signed this petition then you care about preserving your constitutionally protected right of use and access to one of our states most important treasures.  South Carolina is in the top 5 states in the union for growth.   Some things will have to change in order to accommodate our new friends and neighbors, which is to be expected as we welcome them!  BUT South Carolina values and our state constitution must remain intact to preserve what made our state so special to begin with.   Our new friends and neighbors should know our beaches and other public land is for all to enjoy and will not be relinquished for privatization.

There are great men and women across the state running for office who support the values and ideals that have made the state of South Carolina such a wonderful place, from Pickens all the way to Little River.  This petition respectfully requests that you vet each of them to ensure they will stand up against the kind of elitist rule we saw from the leaders of some of our beach communities over the past two years.

RESIDENTS OF MOUNT PLEASANT:

MYRA JONES, who led the charge here in the Charleston area to stop the elimination of thousands of public parking spaces, is the director of The Charleston Beach Foundation and also running for Mount Pleasant town council.  It is the opinion of the organizers of this petition that she is an excellent candidate for many reasons, in addition to her commitment to continue her tireless efforts to preserve the right of all state residents to access and use our barrier islands.  Additional information about Myra Jones and her views on a wide range of other important issues can be found on her website here and linked to this update.   https://myraeasonjones.wixsite.com/mjones4towncouncil

There will be more about Myra, the fight for beach access and parking, and some recent news coming from Isle of Palms in another update we will release next weekend.  For now do your Research and get ready to VOTE nov 2nd!!   Vote for Myra Jones!
