“Yesterday, state leaders and elected officials attended a beach advocates meeting, with SCDOT Secretary Christy Hall and Governor McMaster in attendance. They have indicated they want to work with the islands to find a resolution to the continued restrictions on beach access. While I would like to believe that the Islands will come to the table in good faith to compromise, the only real way to ensure that any plans are enforced is to pass S.40 “AKA The Beach Bill”.

So, now it is truly time that we leverage the 10,000 voices that we have diligently built over the last 6 months. We are asking everyone to contact their County Council Members, all State Representatives and all State Senators, and ask that they support SC General Assembly Bill S.40 The passing of this bill will amend the S.C. Code of Laws to address our concerns for parking on state roadways and encroachments on the Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island and Folly Beach. It will assure that SCDOT has ultimate authority over state roadways on the barrier islands.”
