Passengers and MPs want guards - why don't GTR?

Our petition reached over 400 signatures overnight! Please consider sharing again by email or social media, and tell people why it's important. The company has a loud voice: they can and do put their message on their massive website. they can and do make station announcements condemning their staff. They can go to the press and say degrading guards' jobs makes no difference to passenger safety. We need to counter that with a loud voice. Tell everyone: GTR management say there will still be staff on the trains. If that is true, then... Why do companies who have previously downgraded guards' jobs often run trains with no staff on board? Why are GTR working so hard to make guards unpopular with their staff? Why are they doing everything they can think of to encourage guards to leave (bullying, withdrawing travel passes, car park permits, shift-swap facilities, encouraging redundancy take-up)? They have a loud voice - but we have the support of passengers and MPs. Here is an early-day motion filed at Westminster...
