Hello supporters! Thank you so much for signing my petition. It is great that there are so many of you that are just as passionate about this as I am. Every signature and every share on social media is a massive step forward for us. So I thank you! I just thought I would give you all an update on what has been going on in this whirlwind month since I started this petition. So far it has been retweeted by celebrities on twitter, posted by Senator Sarah Hanson-Young, shared by DIY rainbow facebook page and most recently I was contacted by the amazing Breko and Kat from Sydneys gayradio.com for an interview! This petition is gaining some serious traction and it wouldn't be possible without you! Today I read a comment that was posted to the petition saying "why don't you protest about something worth while?" Well I believe that equal rights are extremely worth while and are 100% worth fighting for! "If two adults of sound mind can do as they like without harming anyone, what difference does it make if they are a male-female couple or a same-sex couple? Marriage equality is actually an extremely important ethical and humanitarian issue, therefore extremely worthwhile. this petition seeks to address one factor in the wider issue, and that is - challenging cultural expressions which discriminate. in this case, the 'married at first sight' show is furthering the mindset that such contracts and commitments are no big deal - but I don't see the anti-marriage equality mob crowing about this show 'threatening the institution and sanctity of marriage'. it's a gross double-standard, and it appears that many are not able to see beyond their own privilege and prejudice." - Bree via Facebook Again, I thank you all immensely and love hearing all of your stories. Love xx
