Changing our school's uniform rules to allow for student self-expression
Changing our school's uniform rules to allow for student self-expression
The issue
At Shirley Boys High School we have so many talented and unique individuals, but from an outsider's perspective you wouldn't know it. Why you may ask? Our school's dress code prohibits almost all forms of self-expression, such as hair colour, piercings, some haircuts and even facial hair. I understand why a uniform is there; it's to present a united front and have all students appear as equal, but I don't think a handful of kids with coloured hair, piercings, fun haircuts or mustaches are going to stop 1000 students in sky blue shirts and dark blue pants from appearing as one united collective. If you believe our school should leave the 1960s and allow for some individuality then please sign this petition.
