Tier 3 BESS Banned in the Town of Islip BUT The Work Continues

Thank you so much to Scott Munro and the Hauppauge Fire Department, as well as the Hauppauge School District for their unwavering support in this fight. Thank you to everyone who signed, shared or promoted this petition and to all Town of Islip residents who showed up and/or helped us spread the word. This is a huge win and great 1st step to keeping our Town safe from the dangers of BESS facilities. Unfortunately, while the Town moved to ban Tier 3 facilities, many of the safeguards and protections originally included for Tier 2 were removed, leaving the potential for developers to work around the restrictions. Now we need to focus on getting the Town of Islip to amend the Tier 2 resolution to close any potential loopholes. The resolution should ensure that properties cannot be subdivided, multiple smaller-scale units cannot be grouped together and developers cannot use alternative configurations or other workarounds to circumvent the intent of the regulations. So while this was a huge win, the fight is not over! We are amending our petition to reflect the current focus and will be updating our website as well.
