Change TMD roster for a better forecast and proper announcement
ประเด็นรณรงค์
During the recent floods that devastated many parts of Thailand, my family and I experienced firsthand the challenges faced by countless Thai citizens. Our home, like thousands of others, was inundated with water, forcing us to evacuate and rely on temporary shelters. We lost not only our belongings but also a sense of security. The emotional and financial toll was overwhelming, and sadly, our story is just one among many struggling families across the nation.
The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) plays a crucial role in preparing and alerting the public about impending weather conditions. However, the recent failures in prediction and responsiveness have highlighted weaknesses within the current system. It is evident that changes are needed in the TMD roster to ensure more effective and timely management of our natural resources and disaster response efforts.
Thailand, a country known for its vibrant culture and resilient people, should not have to suffer year after year from catastrophic floods that could be better managed with improved foresight and coordination. According to a study by the World Bank, better-prepared weather forecasting and disaster management can reduce the impact of natural disasters by up to 30%. This translates to fewer lives disrupted, lower economic damage, and a swifter recovery period.
I propose that the TMD should consider restructuring its existing team to include experts who are not only proficient in meteorological sciences but also in disaster management and community engagement. It is essential to have individuals who can effectively communicate with local governments and communities, ensuring that the population is adequately prepared and that resources are optimally allocated.
Furthermore, investing in advanced technologies and partnerships with international meteorological agencies can bolster TMD's ability to forecast accurately. By looking into sustainable infrastructure solutions and community education programs, TMD can help build a resilient society that is better equipped to face future weather-related challenges.
I urge the Thai government and relevant authorities to take this issue seriously and implement necessary changes in the TMD roster. The lives, homes, and future of Thai people depend on having a system that can safeguard them against the growing threat of severe weather.
Please join me in calling for a comprehensive overhaul of the TMD by signing this petition. Together, we can press for a brighter, safer future for all Thai citizens.
