Hi to all, hope you’re all well.
please once again may I ask for more help , I am amongst a small group of people that I’ve met along this journey are trying so hard to overturn Leicester city councils decision to stop all post 16 transport and funding.
Every child as we recognise deserves an education, with our special needs students we as parents are governed by a unique set of circumstances that the young persons disability presents, thus being limited to placements in specific specialised educational settings,in general that equips there needs rather than other criteria by choice to make.
it is vital we fight this and unite as one to get this decision overturned.
not only are the students stressed and anxious regarding change but families lives are literally being put on the line.
The council are breaching their own legal obligation and guidance.
In this last six months I’ve seen my son flourish in his placement, also having a sense of belonging , enjoying college, experiencing more independent skills each day, social interaction with his peers. Learning daily that despite daily struggles he feels he has a purpose.
Families that may have to move house to be nearer the young persons placement resulting in job losses, financial deprivation, or expected to drive for ridiculous amounts per day, because Leicester city council couldn’t facilitate the young person’s needs, that’s why our children travel afar in the first place. .
I personally travelled over 100 miles per day for 5 years to enable my son to get the best opportunity that there was available at the time.
This is a fight for Leicester parents at the present time however this could be rolled out nationally as 2 other major cities have got away with it to date.
There have been many ways to save money over the years but surely not by writing off the defenceless.
Thank you
