I have been hearing some of the most upsetting circumstances today, for example Leicester city council SEND ignoring families personal situations , expectation of a young person whom is blind and expected to travel to her placement independently on buses which would be 8 buses in total to her final destination.
Bare faced lying that 750 parents had been consulted about these changes however they state out of 11 consultations they received 9 back.
parents will have to give up work to enable to transport their young person whom would be sanctioned by universal credit if they weren’t actively seeking work!!!!!!
The government state that all young people have to be in a form of further education until the age of 18. This has to be one of the following ; college,
Start an apprenticeship, or spend 20 hours a week volunteering or working, while in part time education.
The amount of distress and anxiety this situation is causing is quite overwhelming especially to our defenceless young people.
However, Leicester City Council are willing to hear the voices now of the young people themselves. That also makes a change as my sons voice has personally never been heard.
when challenged by a parent today Leicester City Council answered there will be exceptions but does that then leave us with a competition over which disabilities is more severe than another to whom will then be granted funding for travel?????
My son loves his college and is worrying about how will we be able to fund the fuel to get there as what Leicester City Council don’t state is that the special needs placements that they also pay are more than 3 miles away from the young person’s home most of the time.
eg one of the rules is that they don’t agree with a student travelling for more than 45 minutes in one journey.
I am upset demoralised worried but I have to put a brave face in front of my son .
Once again thank you for your signatures.
Thanks again for supporting this cause.
