The Issue

Greyhound muzzling laws in Western Australia began in 1927 . The law is out of touch and discriminate to the greyhound breed. Once a greyhound comes into a home solely as a companion this law implies we need to muzzle them out in public. This gives public perception that they are a dangerous dog. They are not on the list of dangerous dog breeds.

Greyhounds are very gentle , docile creatures they will often  remove themselves from situations where they are under threat or being annoyed. They make an ideal pet for people of all ages and can live with different types and sizes of animals. Once finished in the racing industry they are not getting moved along into new homes quick enough vastly due to the public perception they are dangerous because of this law.

The petition is hoping to achieve a change in the state  law to create a market level competition for in home training for greyhounds to be tested in their new environment to be suitable for being exempt from the muzzle law when in public.

We have several members of government  backing us to present the petition to parliament.
