Most people are aware of the recent acts of violence occurring on and near the UW-Madison Campus. In a campus that is as accessible to the public as UW's, it is imperative that the university takes further action to improve student safety. The Blue Button system calls for a network of buttons on campus, with no more than a 30 second walk between each, that calls the police when pressed. Many campuses, especially urban ones, across the nation use this as a way to improve student safety. It is clear after the many accounts of assault on campus that this system could greatly benefit the students of UW.
