Petition updateStanford Undergraduate Chemistry Grading Policy

UPDATE: We've Read Concerns and Extra Requests and Have Amended Our Petition

Stanford Undergraduates at StanfordCA, United States
Sep 19, 2020

Hi Stanford Undergraduates,

Thank you for addressing concerns for just requesting Satisfactory/No Credit with related requests for more specific accommodations. Understandably, these classes taught by Stanford’s Undergraduate Chemistry Department are crucial and foundational for proper understanding and use in pre-professional fields and future courses. However, by urging for the extremity of Satisfactory/No Credit we hope to at least alert and implore the Chemistry department to at least compromise with an adjusted grading scale and necessary accommodations such as lecture slides, more time to submit quizzes and examinations, and fairer lab examinations without a staggering 50% weight on PollEverywhere questions in allowing fairness for ALL students’ greater understanding and handling of course material. As we continue to petition for universal consideration of the entirety of the Stanford undergraduate student body, please consider the dichotomy of our petition as to 1) truly fix the irony and loophole of choosing a letter grade v. pass and fail for ALL students and 2) to lessen the inequity and stress of the COVID-19 and to implement a more understanding grading policy inclusive of accommodations for Stanford undergraduates as demonstrated by many adjusted grading policies of other courses at Stanford University.
