Dear Friends,
Thanks again for signing our petition. I can't say the petition was a victory, unfortunately, but we did get the word out on a national scale.
The Norman Rockwell Museum, after taking the fraudulent Deborah Solomon biography of Rockwell off their website in the heat of the national coverage born of this petition in August, has inexplicably put the book back on their site with its original publicity blurb, "The latest and most comprehensive biography of Norman Rockwell from a celebrated art critic." Bizarrely, it is now the only biography on Rockwell offered by the Museum - they don't seem to be carrying the Laura Claridge 2001 biography, "Norman Rockwell - A Life", the only credible, earnest bio on my grandfather to date. My grandfather's autobiography, "My Adventures As An Illustrator", is out of print.
The actions of the Museum officials speak louder than their lack of words. Their defiance of the facts and unwillingness to take ownership for their epic failure in supporting the debunked biography leave us with a lasting impression of their lack of qualifications to represent one of America's most beloved artists.
Sorry I couldn't wrap this petition up with better news, even still, your signature and support made a difference. Thank you!
As Doris Day once sang, "Que sera, sera, whatever will be, will be."
I am signing off now. Happy Holidays and lighter days ahead, folks!
Warm wishes,
Abigail
