We’re excited to announce that registrations are now open for our upcoming free-to-attend community event, 'Thornbury 2051: What the planning changes really mean'!
We expect strong interest in this session, so we encourage you to register early and share this with neighbours, friends and anyone interested in the future of Melbourne’s planning system and how it will change our communities and suburbs over the next 25 years. Register today!
Over the past year, our community has been flooded with slogans, headlines and political talking points about the Government’s planning changes.
But many residents either don't know it's happening or are still asking the same questions:
- What do these changes actually mean in practice?
- How do all the different reforms fit together?
- What could Thornbury, Northcote and Preston realistically look like over time?
- And where is the evidence behind many of the claims being made?
We’ll cover:
- The planning changes and how they all fit together, including the Activity Centre Program, the Mid-Rise and Low-Rise Codes and the Development Facilitation Program
- What that looks like on the ground
- Housing promises vs actual evidence
- Infrastructure, liveability and affordability
- Myths, claims and what planning experts are actually saying
- Most importantly — there will be time for community questions.
This event is about stepping back from the spin and having a clear, evidence-based conversation about what is happening, what is proposed, and what it could mean for our suburbs, streets and future communities.
