On Sunday night, Fair Growth Thornbury (FGT) formally sent our community submission and petitions to the Minister for Planning, calling for a fairer, more transparent and sustainable approach to the Thornbury Activity Centre Draft Plans.

Our letter sets out the community’s deep concerns about the State Government’s flawed consultation process - the lack of transparency, rushed timelines, and the one-size-fits-all planning model that ignores Thornbury’s diversity, history and heritage, residential character, infrastructure limits, and unique village feel.

It also presents our constructive, evidence-based proposals for genuine, balanced growth: protecting residential streets, focusing higher density along major corridors, and ensuring infrastructure and sustainability planning come first.

We’re now proud to say that nearly 1,000 residents across East and Central Thornbury have signed our petitions, a clear message that Thornbury wants responsible, well-planned growth, not unchecked overdevelopment.

What’s Next
We’re moving into the next phase of the campaign and we need your help to keep the momentum going.

1️⃣ We have identified and will be engaging a group of representatives across the Activity Centre to advise on strategy and guide community engagement for the next stage of FGT's campaign.
2️⃣ We’ve launched a GoFundMe to help fund the next phase. To date, we’ve spent over $1,000 of our own money on printing, mail-outs and materials, but we need your support to keep the pressure up on government through to the release and gazettal of the final plans.

3️⃣ Using funds raised from our GoFundMe, we will implement ongoing campaign activities like:

• Printing and distributing updated flyers and information to residents;
• Producing corflute signs and banners to raise visibility; and
• Supporting ongoing community outreach and advocacy. 

We’ve come this far together, let’s keep the pressure on. This is our chance to ensure Thornbury grows fairly, responsibly and sustainably, through genuine community partnership, not top-down planning.
