Big news all - our message is getting out and we're in the Daily Mail!!(👉 Read the article)
Also, please sign our East Thornbury petition (👉Sign here) if you haven't already!
The coverage highlights exactly what we’ve been saying: the government’s planning approach ignores the character and infrastructure of Thornbury. We need responsible density increases that reflect the suburb's character, not extinguish it. Our message to government is clear: slow down, stop rushing, understand the nuance of Thornbury and co design something that is robust and fair in the long term.
Our sister companion petition pushes for the same principles, responsible growth, better planning, and respect for community feedback, across the broader activity centre (the East Thornbury area).
Together, the East and Central Thornbury campaigns show just how united our community is in calling for smart, balanced development across Thornbury.
As an update on the campaign, on top of the media coverage, we have over 150 signatures on our petition and have almost completed our letter drop campaign which will have resulted in over 5,000 properties receiving a flyer across the proposed Activity Centre.
We have a face-to-face meeting with Kat Theophanous (Northcote MP) this week to strongly communicate our message about the consultation process more generally and the draft plans.
Special thanks to all those who have reached out to offer to help with the campaign so far, we will certainly have further engagement activities over the coming months as the plans move towards finalisation early next year.
Until then, please keep the conversations going in your social circles, reach out to your local MP, respond to the survey and of course, thank you for your ongoing support, every signature and share counts.
