Free Sanitary Products at Celtic Park

Petition for free sanitary products to be available at Celtic Park. Conscious that this is a nation-wide issue across different football teams and different sports, but hoping to pilot this campaign with my own team Celtic before hopefully expanding the cause to cover other teams and sports!

The price of sanitary products currently means that menstural hygiene is a luxury for many women. Work is taking place across Scotland to establish free sanitary products in colleges and universities, and I’m hoping to commence a campaign which sees this mirrored in football grounds - in this case, Celtic Park.

Women are under-represented in football - both in the stands and on the pitch. I hope that by signing this petition you will stand with me in increasing visibility of women and their needs in the context of football.

Why are we doing this?

1- hygiene requirements for women and girls should extend to sanitary products. These should be readily available at no cost, like toilet roll and soap.

2 - menstruation is a taboo subject, this helps put it into public consciousness and results in discussion. Social attitudes need to change.

3 - gives female football fans visibility. Celtic can lead by example, show that our club is forward thinking and inclusive - send out a strong message!

4 - highlights ‘period poverty’ - showing support for poverty related issues and fits with the ethos of our club

5 - period poverty is becoming a major issue and progress is being made in parliament to provide free universal access to sanitary products - see Monica Lennon (MSP) work. Eventually all companies will face these costs - lets be the first to do it!
