I would like to thank everyone who took the time to sign and share the petition to ask CBC to live broadcast the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation event taking place on Parliament Hill. It is organized by the Indigenous Arts Collective of Canada, and which is reportedly the largest event of its kind in the country. I am disappointed in CBC to say the least, but with more reflection, I am also disappointed that the entity that puts on the Canada Day event on Parliament Hill didn’t do so for the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation. The petition moved almost 20,000 to act and sign and for that I am grateful. If you are interested in the correspondence between CBC and I, see below. With all due respect, the event in Ottawa has not been organized by either the Orange Shirt Society or the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. And it looks like it has no connection with the federal government either. It’s organized with an Arts Organization. Our programming was organized in collaboration with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation - the leading group in the country on the issue of reconciliation. Our programming from 8 - 10 pm that night is a collaboration between us and the NCTR. APTN will also be airing the 8pm live program. The programming on CBC will cover all nations from coast to coast to coast, while the event in Ottawa is only focused on that one region.

Thank you for this information. If I understand correctly, this is your programming for the inaugural National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

It is quite disappointing to learn that you will not be broadcasting the event on Parliament Hill, an event that is so monumentally important for Canadians. Why would you not have NDTR programming of this kind planned in the morning? The point of the day is to educate and raise awareness, why are you not doing better for Canadians? Your role is pivotal. There are almost 20,000 signatures on the petition and I can assure you that many will be heartbroken to know that once again, Canada is failing the Indigenous community by not recognizing the biggest public event put on in the name of truth and reconciliation in Canada, in its capital city, on Canada's news outlet. There is still time to reconsider - the event will be broadcast on YouTube and considerations for broadcasting will already be in place. Please, please, please reconsider. I would appreciate a reply.

That day CBC will be have special programming. At 8pm there’s a live show that’ll air across the country, which was put on in collaboration with the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation. There will also be a new documentary produced out of the Manitoba that will air at 9pm that night. There is also a special noon radio show that’ll air that day.

I have tried to call the general CBC number to follow up with my initial email. I wasn't able to reach anyone, and after having the system hang up on me, I was finally able to leave a message. The petition now has over 11,000 and the interest in televising this event continues to grow. Some of the comments include:
- I want Canadians to have truth & reconciliation at the forefront of our minds and coverage on September 30th will help
- It is the right thing to do.
- This national day of remembrance is important for all Canadians to see/ hear/ participate in
- It’s important now more than ever to show our support to Indigenous people.
- All Canadians need to be part of this national event. It would help in our healing.
- We need to remember, educate, never forget and make sure this NEVER reoccurs.
- This event should be broadcast nation-wide.
- We need continuing national conversations about reparations and real reconciliation
- As a Canadian I want to learn more about my Indigenous neighbour's
- A Very Important Day in Canada's History. It should be Televised
- A broadcast for National Day of Remembrance on CBC at minimum, is a must.
- Also, recaps for those of us who live in provinces that won't recognize this long overdue remembrance.
- This would be a great opportunity for students to see and would also make it more accessible.
- It's an important event for our nation.
I hope you agree to broadcast this event. As you can see it means a lot to Canadians.

I was saddened to learn that no news outlets are interested in live streaming the National Day of Remembrance event on Parliament Hill (http://remember-me-september-30.org and especially sad that CBC won't be streaming it, considering you always stream Canada Day festivities on the Hill and you are Canada's news station. Please consider streaming it, for all those who can't attend, or choose not to because of the pandemic, or just because it's the right thing to do as part of reconciliation. I am in no way affiliated with the organization hosting the event, I just reached out to ask if it would be live-streamed, somewhere other than YouTube. I would appreciate a reply. Thank you.
