Wow! On Saturday morning we published this petition with an ambitious goal to get the signatures of 500 people that cared about keeping the Avalon Theatre open. A few hours ago--only two days after going live--we received our 6,000th signature and the number continues to climb! It has been so incredibly moving to read your comments and to learn about the many different reasons this cause is so important to so many different people in Avalon and all around the world!
We are confident that the Island Company will be similarly moved by this outpouring of love and support for the theatre and the loud outcry to please keep it open for residents and visitors to enjoy. We are hopeful, too, that they will take this opportunity to meet with community members and other interested parties and work together to find a solution that is beneficial to all. For now, though, let's keep the momentum going.
First: Please keep posting and sharing this petition anywhere and with anyone that you believe might care about it.
Second--and this one is specifically for Avalon residents: Your government representatives want to hear about the issues impacting you and your community. Contacting them is easy. If you would like to reach out to let them know how you feel about the Island Company's decision to cease theatre operations or about any other issue that concerns you, here is how you can do that:
