Secrecy is heroin's BIGGEST ALLY. The shame and humiliation are so strong that it plays a role in our nation's health crisis epidemic. Heroin killed 13,000 people in the United States alone in 2015. That is roughly the average number of Americans killed annually in the three deadliest years of the Vietnam War (1967 -1969). There are as many as one million heroin users in the United States. Which by the way turns into the same thing as prescribed opiate medications such as oxycontin, percocet and vicodin. It all turns into morphine when it goes into the system. Heroin is powerful. It can kill you and the people you love. Discovering how the epidemic of opiate prescription pill/ heroin addiction kills our children, destroys their parents, and SHATTERS families has only given us HOPE for changing the way we are addressing this crisis. Laws need to be implemented and more awareness needs to be brought to the forefront on navigating recovery services, rehabilitation and outpatient programming. We are losing this generation senselessly. Understand how to prepare for overdose and how it can affect anyone and everyone. Continue to educate yourself become more aware of all the people this is affecting. Heroin does not discriminate! Speak out to make positive change! Substance abuse impaired individuals also deal with underlying issues that have co-occuring disorders and make it impossible to get the help they need on their own.
