We have had many people recently ask for an update on the progress of education funding and subsequently the funding of Outdoor School. At this point we are essentially in a holding pattern. The County Commissioners are currently in the middle of their budget talks, which are scheduled to go on into April.
Here are some numbers:
- Superintendent Guthrie requires $166.6 million to fully fund CCPS for 2013 - 2014.
- Commissioner Howard and Commissioner Shoemaker are willing to fund CCPS at $164 million, thus requiring some cuts to education, but probably not Outdoor School, media centers or kindergarten assistants.
- Commissioner Roush is undecided, but leaning towards funding at $164 million as well. He NEEDS to hear from us!!
- Commissioner Rothschild wants to fund as little as possible (Maintenance of Effort ~ $161 million) with a possible one time cash supplement between $1 million and $2 million - funded partially by the county and partially with voluntary citizen "donations"
