The Tailor Institute, located in Cape Girardeau, Missouri serves individuals with the diagnosis of High Functioning Autism aged 16 and older within the Southeast Missouri region. Since 2003, The Tailor Institute has been responsible for over 160 clients and their families, and the need for the services continually increases.  On average, 40+ young adults benefit from services each week.  The Tailor Institute provides prevocational/vocational, soft social and adaptive skills evaluation and training to negotiate a workplace successfully.  In addition to this, The Tailor Institute identifies clients’ strengths and channel those strengths into a functional career for each client. For only $200,000, The Tailor Institute was able to operate this successful program. In order to prevent The Tailor Institute from terminating these services to these individuals, it is crucial that the House of Representatives Budget Committee leave this money in the Department of Economic Development Workforce Development budget and restore our program’s funding for the upcoming fiscal year!
