2019 Specialized High School offers have just been announced and 170 less Asians were offered seats this year. That’s directly related to Mayor DeBlasio's new Discovery policy that will eventually reserve 20% of the Specialized High School seats for students who are way below the SHSAT cutoff and considered to be disadvantaged by his own definition of poverty.

As the Discovery policy reaches 20% next year, even more qualified Asians will be excluded. Overall there were 269 less seats offered this year, that is  equivalent to eliminating two of the smaller five Specialized High Schools. The Mayor has the authority to increase the Discovery program to 50% or more to get what he wants.

The low number of Blacks and Latinos accepted into these schools is due the Mayors own failure to provide good schools to prepare them.

We must stop this attack on the Civil Rights of Asian Americans and we must preserve these schools for high achievers of all races.
