Through our constant prayers, Pope Francis has given us a Cardinal who is a true Shepard. Latest status of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church In response to my letter to Archbishop Joseph Tobin, I received a phone call Friday May 6th from Father Graff. At the request of His Eminence Cardinal Tobin, we met with Father Graff and Father D’Amico from the Archdiocese’s New Energy Committee to discuss the future of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. On Monday, May 9th at 11:00 am, Raffaele Marzullo and myself met with Father Graff and Father D’Amico at The Archdiocese of Newark. We had a very cordial meeting and discussed the fate of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. We stated, even though we were told a year ago last May that Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church would be closed, we at OLMC through Our Community Outreach Program continued to serve the minorities, refugees and helped people who found themselves in a time of need. We discussed our feelings that we should permanently remain open to serve the demographical changes that have occurred in the past 10 years, in a radius of less than three blocks, of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in the Fourth Ward of Montclair. We have an advantage of being in the heart of the Forth Ward, where Immaculate Conception clearly does not. We strongly stated that we want to manage the business, finances and growth of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church so we could all be part of its future. We felt we could promote OLMC by having a Spanish Mass and bring in many new Parishioners into the church. Thanks to all of you we have represented ourselves well with attendance at mass and all of the functions we have run. Father Graff and Father D’Amico will now present this to his Eminence Cardinal Tobin and he will decide our fate. Cardinal Tobin, in his short time of leading the Archdiocese of Newark, seems to be a very reasonable leader, and we are hoping he makes a decision in our favor and leaves OLMC open. We should all pray for this. While this decision is pending, we all must be on our best behavior. If you are going to attend Cardinal Tobin’s Mass in Nutley, I know you all will be polite and gracious to him. The Cardinal will be celebrating Mass on May 16th at 7:30pm at the Church of The Holy Family 28 Brookline Ave, Nutley, NJ. After the Mass there will be a meet and greet. OUR LADY OF Mt. CARMEL CHURCH Is part of this Deanery. We all need to attend and when you greet His Eminence, be respectful and say this. “WE HAVE PRAYED FOR YOUR ARRIVAL AS OUR NEW ARCHBISHOP, WELCOME. PLEASE COME VISIT US AT OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL CHURCH IN MONTCLAIR.” So far our prayers have been working, keep Praying. Thank you for your support in these trying times. If anyone has any questions please contact me at frankc.olmc@verizon.net or 973-981-8831 We still have not had a response on our appeal to the Vatican. Frank Cardell Chairman, Save OLMC Committee
