The Victorian Toilets in the Hayes, Cardiff, are both a historic landmark and a vital additional to the range of public amenities in the city centre. Only recently refurbished, the Victorian Toilets are a remarkable remnant of Cardiff's late nineteenth and early twentieth century architecture, and are with little doubt among the most stylistically impressive public toilet complexes left in use in the United Kingdom. But the important consideration here is that these are in use. Well positioned in the heart of Cardiff's shopping district, the Victorian Toilets attract regular traffic, and their closure would cause serious inconvenience to many using the city centre, while at the same time strip Cardiff of a unique attraction.

We appeal to Cardiff Council to abandon plans to close the Victorian Toilets, and save an important and historic public facility.
