We have had countless engagements with the Waterfront over email and media (we had a Cape Talk interview with Lester on the matter), but it looks like they are planting trees to make it permanent.
Our understanding of the matter still has to be finalised from their side but the move to plant trees seems like they are making it permanent. We have urgently written to them to clarify and will share their response.
Some other comments that have come up from them:
“Some car drivers are frustrated at having to wait for pedestrians crossing in more than one location as they enter or leave the V&A via Dock Road in the vicinity of the Canal plaza” - News24 article!
But Donald in the interview conceded that we need a bottom-up approach to change behaviour.
It is obvious now that there are people in their own organisation who are against the removal, so please share it with everyone you know.
Best,
Roland and Sindile
